Eating @ Le Cafe Michi (Lunch, Scarborough)

5:08:00 PM

It had been a while since we visited Le Cafe Michi for lunch. Normally, I visited in the past to buy their popular Japanese cakes. Their cakes were always delicious and just a little sweet. Set in a strip mall in Scarborough, this Japanese eatery offers sushi & desserts such as green tea mousse cake.

Atmosphere:
The cafe is very narrow in dimension. The first part of the restaurant was the cafe with the back part of the restaurant looking more sushi like bar decor. At lunch time, this place was filled for the weekend.

Service:
The staff were Japanese and were helpful in providing water (hot, cold) and refilling the green tea (which was amazing).  My only disappointment was that there wasn’t a teapot at the table, instead I had to ask the servers multiple times for green tea refills.

Food:
In regards to the food, we ordered the chyo-chin bento ($25) and udon seafood hotpot ($21).

The udon seafood hotpot was for my daughter. The hotpot included the following ingredients: udon noodle, seasonal vegetables, seafood (Shrimp, White Fish, Salmon And Scallops). I sampled some of the soup broth and it was tasty. My daughter loved the noodles.

The Chyo-chin Bento included a choice of green tea or coffee, your choice of a slice of cake, a garden salad, Karaage, sashimi and unajyu on sushi rice. Karaage was deep fried chicken and extremely delicious. Chicken wasn’t too oily although the sauce was slightly sweet (like thousand island). Unajyu was eel and the dish also came with seaweed, egg and lettuce. The dish was scrumptious and all the ingredients perfectly compliment each other. The eel was very soft and tasty. The sashimi were thick slices which is really nice and very fresh. There isn’t much variety for the sashimi however. The green tea cake was delicious. It wasn’t sweet and I could taste the matcha.

Although the cafe was slightly pricey compared to other Japanese restaurants that are strictly a la carte, I would definitely come back to try their other dishes.
