Eating at Piggy Restaurant (Thornhill)

2:28:00 PM

I found this restaurant on Instagram postings with references to these massive large dumplings. To my surprise, this "Piggy" restaurant wasn't located too far from work. For this lunch adventure, my colleagues and I went to Piggy restaurant for some Korean food.

Atmosphere:
The restaurant was very large with lots of booth seating extending along the wide alley shape restaurant. Every wooden table had a built in BBQ cooker embedded.  The seating was wrapped in black leather; however, some of the seats had better days for cushioning. We decided to move to another booth.

Service:
In most Korean restaurants that I have been to, they had a button on the table for service calling. I was expecting something similar here but none was to be found. The staff were Korean and had no issues with our request for ordering, getting drinks and requesting more napkins. They were very efficient and polite.

Food:
For this restaurant, you can expect Korean food. For this lunch journey, we decided to order our own individual meals.

I got the Gae Seong Wang Man Du (Korean-styped steamed dumplings made with meat and vegetables - 5 pc). My colleagues got the Bossam (pork belly with napa wraps) and Ugeoji-Gal Bi Tang (beef short ribs soup)

The ban chan (side dishes) came first. The fried pancake as a ban chan came as a big surprise. I don't know of any restaurants who provide this (normally an appetizer item). The staff said this was only a 1 time only for the meal. Overall, the side dishes were good and I especially loved the tofu with the green onion soy sauce.

As for the main dish, the dumplings were really large. They were above average for taste. There was another Korean restaurant that sells something similar as well (link) on Hwy 7 and Bayview. I personally preferred the Hwy 7 dumplings for the taste and sauce customization. For this meal, you were limited to what was provided and had to request more from the staff.

My colleague commented that the Bossam meal was very good and well executed with the different ingredients to form the napa wrap.

Overall, I would come back here again to try their other dishes.
