Review - Lunching at Tapagria Spanish Tapas Restaurant - Thornhill, Ontario

10:42:00 PM

Work and family life has been very busy. As such, I don't have much time to create or cook meals from scratch after work. If you had noticed in the past, I would go out for lunch! For this lunch adventure, I had discovered that the Tapagria restaurant near my work area was finally available for lunch (previously was only open during dinner on weekdays). I had heard many negative comments about the establishment (such being a ghost town during weekend lunch and having costly meals). With all these comments (positive and negative), I was actually more curious than ever. For this visit, a foodie colleague was available and joined me for this awesome food adventure.

Atmosphere:
Before this Tapagria restaurant existed, Go for Tea was here. After the takeover, the Go for Tea establishment was actually split into two business (with same owner): Tapagria and Bao Time.  I actually like the artist decor along the bar area with the bull motifs and the matador wall art on the other end. There were many comfortable booth seats along the windows. Overall, I loved the decor and colour theme.

Service:
There was one front staff servicing the tables. He was very friendly and helpful. He wasn't familiar with the daily specials and had to confirm with the chefs.

Food:
For this establishment, the menu was purely Spanish tapa dishes which were mostly expensive (on average $10 with the highest $22). My colleague and I decided to try the 3 course lunch menu set. We got the Chorizo Bravas ($12) and Personal Seafood Paella ($18) sets.

We started with the daily soup which was mushroom soup. It had reminded me of the Campbell cream of mushroom soup.

Overall, the Chorizo Bravas was a pretty good deal. Chorizo and eggs made this dish very filling. The Spicy bravas sauce added another dimension to the dish. I thought my seafood paella dish was average. I was definitely spoiled by my experiences in Spain. It wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad. It was very filling for the meal.

For dessert, we got tea and cookies for desserts. Sadly, the cookies looked like they were from Costco "Dad's Oatmeal Cookies." If they went that far to make lunch entrees, why not go a little further to make some fresh cookies.

Verdict:
Pricey meals mostly suitable for business management in the work area. Unless their prices drop down, not many people will come. The presentation for the dishes were definitely Instagram worthy.
